Retreats and Seminars

These residential retreats focus on learning to return to presence with a curious, kind and non-judgmental attitude. The atmosphere of openness to the reality of the moment permeates all practices.

 

While based around the experience of sitting meditation, the day also includes Feldenkrais® movement lessons, guided inquiry into perception, thoughts and feelings, as well as talks/dialogues.

 

As each retreat will have a slightly different focus, please see Retreat Announcements page for details of content of each retreat.  All retreats include the following:

  • Embodied Meditation, is a bare-bones approach to experiencing the present moment "as it is"; this is the basis for being at home in ourselves. Russell emphasizes two main attitudes: 1) openness to the moment and 2) kindness toward whatever appears in the moment. We will be meditating each day for periods of 30 minutes. Chairs are available and accommodations are made for those who find sitting challenging.

  • Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, is recognized as the creator of a brilliant sensory-motor approach to reeducating the nervous system and for developing clearer self-awareness. Using ingenious, enjoyable, and intriguing movement sequences, this work is of value to people at all levels of movement ability.

  • Guided Inquiry is Russell's name for the talks, interactions and practices that we do during the retreats. As with the meditation and the movement lessons, the atmosphere is one of openness, curiosity, respect and kindness. Learning to bring presence to our thoughts and emotions helps us to become free from our life defeating habits.
